Payroll Specialist

Department: Shared Services
Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Purpose

The purpose of this position is to process payroll and assist with other Human Resources initiatives and activities.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary assistant to the Payroll Manager.
  • Perform functions necessary to process payrolls for the US, Canada, United Kingdom payrolls.
  • Oversee time and attendance system.
  • Maintain accurate data within HRIS system and retain proper records of payroll documentation and transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Perform file imports into payroll/HRIS system from various sources and review and verify payroll data.
  • Process forms and documents for unemployment notices, tax withholding and child support orders and other required garnishments.
  • Prepare and distribute biweekly and monthly payroll reports to department leaders, finance, and human resources as appropriate.
  • Prepare journal entries relating to payroll and accruals and support month end close with required payroll reports.
  • Electronically release timesheets, expenses, and vendor invoices for third party temporary employees for payment through third party payroll vendors.
  • Collect and process new hire documentation
  • Oversee an administer the corporate credit card program by assisting and resolving employee issues and set up of employees in the concur expense management system.

Position Requirements

  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • 3-5 years of Payroll experience required.
  • Demonstrated skills in human resources preferred.
  • General knowledge of payroll principles, multi-state payroll and employment guidelines and income tax laws.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and operation of Windows-based PCs and Microsoft Office packages. (Intermediate Excel knowledge required).
  • Experience in ADP (Workforce Now) is required.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
