Director Fleet

Department: US Mobile Units
Location: Pittsburgh, PA

The purpose of this position is to manage, supervise, and direct all associated activity of fleet operations for NEP US Broadcast Services to ensure that the department efficiently meets both NEP’s business objectives and our client’s needs.

Key Duties Include:

  • Supervise the Fleet Department consisting of a Fleet Managers, Fleet maintenance coordinators, Mobile Unit Drivers and Independent Contract Drivers while establishing a leadership role in the corporation as an expert in fleet related issues and offer expertise to all departments as necessary
  • Set the direction and goals of the fleet department to meet the Corporate and Divisional goals.
  • Effectively mentoring the staff by developing their skill sets, providing appropriate objectives and goals to meet, evaluating their progress, and suggesting methods by which they can meet their objectives and goals.
  • Build a rapport with the field staff as a manager and develop their trust as experts in fleet issues.
  • Work with Human Resources to coordinate all recruitment, orientation, performance review and related employment activities ensuring all operator documents required are current and on file such as licenses, driver’s logs, trip reports and drug testing results.
  • Set standards for Mobile Unit Drivers and continue to “raise the bar” in regard to the overall performance of the Fleet Staff.
  • Maintain all relevant information regarding mobile units including size, measurements, settings, etc. and furnish comprehensive reports to management and other appropriate entities.
  • Work with all vendors pertaining to maintenance negotiating costs of repairs, deadlines, contracts and renewals and other related activity.
  • Coordinate all leasing activity, including working with the finance department to establish new and maintain current leases. In addition, ensure that vendors adhere to federal regulations and NEP requirements.
  • Comply with safety requirements and operate in accordance regulations ensuring that all units are equipped with current permits, registrations, safety kits, etc. and updated as required.
  • Ensure that all vehicle, driver and related regulations are met as regulate through the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMCSA).
  • Work with Safety Committee on corporate safety measures, especially those pertaining to mobile unit operation.
  • Communicate relevant changes in NEP policies or state and federal laws to appropriate parties.
  • Review all fleet activity including trip and technical reports and recommend changes if necessary to ensure transportation of mobile units and personnel at minimum cost consistent with sound operating practices.
  • Provide support on special projects while working with Vice President of Logistics, and others as needed.
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively with a diverse group of people to complete work according to desired schedule.
  • Monitor assigned budget line items related to fleet.
  • Be available or “on- call” 24 hours in case of fleet related emergencies.

Requirements:

  • Must have Bachelor of Science degree in Logistics Management, Engineering, or related field. Any combination of training, education and experience in fleet management will be considered
  • At least 10 years’ experience managing fleet operations in a similar environment required
  • In-depth knowledge and operation of computers and software packages. Windows-based PC knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Extensive knowledge of budgets, ordinances, practices, procedures, and terminology needed
  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMCSA previously know as Department of Transportation or DOT) requirements as well as other federal, state and applicable requirements.
  • Organizational skills and communication skills essential
  • Must have strong leadership skills and an ability to manage multiple tasks and or priorities and easily adapt to changing situations
